![]() At long range plunging fire can citadel them, but at those ranges cruiser guns don't have the penetration to get through the belt, upper belt or deck armor. *German BB's have a turtle back armor scheme which makes them nigh impossible to citadel at medium and short range, even for other BBs. Penetration drops off on all guns as range increases and cruisers simply don't have big enough guns to penetrate BB belts at long range. Most heavy cruisers can citadel non-German* BBs, but they have to be uncomfortably close to do so. Furutaka, for example, can citadel a New York from at least 8km out. The changes he is mentioning aren't real and didn't happen. The Panzerschiffe (Graf Spee and HSF Graf Spee) are in a slightly weirder place, as they have bad battleship guns for their matchmaking spread. Also, they might have enough gun to abuse some of the lighter basement tier battleships. The Supercruisers with the over-sized guns are pretty much in the same boat as the 8" (203mm) cruisers, except that they don't need to get as close. Against 8" (203mm) cruiser guns, if you've got really nice AP rounds, you might get through at close ranges. Battleships can pretty much laugh at 6"(152mm )AP to the belt. Well, it's not purely gun caliber, as there are some large caliber guns with awful penetration, but it does follow caliber reasonably well. Is this just something about x ship gun caliber vs x ship citadel armor thickness at a wierd angle or something? On the other hand, when I do the same into an enemy cruiser it seems like they are just a floating citadel that I can hit without even trying to. I have one question, how do I citadel a BB? Generally when a BB gives me broadside on my light cruisers and I swap to ap to try and hit citadels I aim waterline-center the ship but almost never get any citadel hits. I've been playing ships like the Emerald and the Budyonny quite a bit, I also have a t5 German BB and the T6 USN BB that I play a bit less frequently.
